Eunice Abaga Business Leader Interview

The second leadership quality is flexibility.I admire this quality because we live in a changing world that requires us to move at fast calculated pace. Technological, political, economical and environmental changes dictate the outcomes of our work and life and therefore only flexible leaders can advance and grow. Lack of flexibility is bound to lead to failure.

The third leadership quality that admire most is empathy. Contrary to the idea that there is no place for emotion in business, high performing leaders understand that the secret is in finding a balance between emotions and logic. An empathic leader inspires and motivate their employees and therefore gain a competitive edge to productivity and performance among workers.

The fourth leadership quality I admire is being innovative. Innovation in not just about new ideas but also about putting new ideas into action. Besides, innovation breaks the barrier of structures that are no longer beneficial for the growth of a business.I admire innovation because it is one of the top ingredients for change and development in any industry. Last but not least I admire leaders who are effective communicators. Communication is critical in all business processes and procedures. Poor communication stifles progress and effective communications help to resolve business problems quickly and effectively.

BI: What has been a key element of your success?

EA: The key element to my success has been what I refer to the strategic determination. Strategic in the sense that, even when there were no concreate  evidence to proceed with a business or policy idea, I was determined to proceed with the idea.

When I was in school, I did not have readily available funds to complete my graduate school, but I was able to enroll with great determination to complete the program on schedule. I negotiated a payment plan with students account; I worked more than three jobs to raise my tuition, and I found affordable housing during my school years. After graduation, it took a while before I landed a job in my field of study, but I continued working in other fields to get by.  Due to the tough job market, it took me over three years before landing a good job, but I never gave up. Since I landed the policy analyst job, I have encountered personal challenges including health crises, but I never lost hope in doing my best and being productive.

In general, it is the strategic determination that allowed me to enter the income property business and through determination, I am still in business five years later.  I believe to be a success, we need to be decisive, disciplined and determined. That is why in productivity improvement process seminars, I focus on decision, discipline and determination as core strengths for successful and high performing individuals.

BI:  What are some of the business projects that you are currently working on that you are excited about and why?

EA: I have three business projects on the go. First is to explore options on repositioning the income property business. Second is to develop a non-profit organization with a mission of chopping the home care crisis in Nova Scotia while popping up affordable housing for vulnerable populations such as those aged 55 and over, persons with disabilities and new immigrants. The third but not least is to advocate for increased focus on workplaces as settings of health and wellness by proposing new ways to address risk mitigation in primary care and acute care.

I am excited about these projects because there are great opportunities ahead.

BI: What are 1 or 2 things you would like to say to a prospective client who stumbles across this interview?

EA: 1. I am in the business of supporting personal, professional and organizational transformation, how could I contribute to you or your organization? 2.I am looking for individuals who seek to be more productive, profitable, creative and high-performing, who do you know that you can refer me to?

BI: To wrap this up, what are you most excited about in the upcoming months in your business?

EA: I am so excited in the coming months in my business because it is going to get a new lease of life. I recently connected with a lady who has been in real estate for over two decades, and she is committed to helping me succeed. She has begun working with me to uplevel the marketing strategies and teach me how to position myself in the fierce market.

I am also excited in the coming months in the coaching and consulting in the marketplace.
