The Interventionist training provides the step-by-step strategies and methods to successfully help people get into rehab or detox, allowing them the opportunity to turn their lives around.
When asked about the Addictions Recovery Coach training, Dr. Estes explained, “Recovery coaching professionals, good ones, are able to delve into the current and existing issues that are holding someone back in life and help them move forward, addiction-free. This is about creating a perfect and customized blend of guidance, information, accountability, and oversight.”
She continued, “Due to the current financial climate created by the Coronavirus pandemic, we’re offering a large range of scholarships. We want to get this important training into the hands of those who can help because there are more and more people who need it.”
Dr. Estes recently went on record to say that our current system of addiction and substance abuse treatment does not always work and that professional coaches and interventionists are needed more than ever.
A recent article in Politico titled, “Swamped Mental Health and Addiction Services Appeal for Covid Bailout” pointed out the dilemma facing the nation, centers are laying off staff while facing a surge in patients.
“Mental health and addiction treatment centers and counselors have been overwhelmed with work during the coronavirus pandemic and economic crash. But many are struggling to stay afloat amid confusion and delays over the federal bailout for the health care industry,” states the article.
Centers caught in a financial squeeze are shedding staff or unable to buy protective gear while trying to serve a flood of new patients and transition some existing patients to online visits. Meanwhile, the burden of a global pandemic and mass unemployment is driving up demand: Calls to a federal mental health crisis hotline have increased ten-fold during the pandemic compared to a year ago — a trend experts say could derail the progress the government has made on the opioid crisis.
Nearly 200 people are succumbing to overdose every day in the United States right now. With the incidences of an overdose so high, Dr. Estes’ plan of preventing them in the first place makes sense to many experts.
“We need to start to think differently about when to intervene in the addiction. Waiting until someone is already dead and then trying to revive them with Narcan is not really a plan, it’s a reaction,” Estes declared. “Let’s get them the help they need before that even happens.”
Her goal: to get as many professionally trained recovery interventionists and coaches out there as possible. Structured, professional help from trained and certified professionals can often be the difference between life and death.
Intervention training tends to focus on clinical and detox assessment and family system dynamics because the crisis is not the sole problem of the addict. A Recovery Coach is a person that works with and supports individuals immersed in addiction, and coaches people in recovery from the abuse of alcohol and drugs, gambling, eating disorders, or other addictive behaviors.
“We have several different methods of crisis to allow the addict to realize they need help, then we get the addict the proper support to give them another chance at life,” Estes said. “Every situation is different and needs to be customized for the client and their family.”
When asked why she was offering the scholarships, Dr. Estes asserted, “With the recent increase in demand and the uptick in the calls for help we have programs that can save lives. We want to get this valuable training into the hands of anyone so they can learn how they could instantly save someone’s life and change the course of history by tapping into some basic, but powerful, skills.”
