Tell us about your journey! What led you to this point?
My journey began with a deep interest in how people learn and develop resilience in life.
So, after completing my studies in educational psychology, I began to focus my research on the growth mindset and resilience. As well as allowing me to deepen my knowledge, my decision to specialise also gave me the opportunity to speak at various conferences about these important topics.
I am so passionate about positive psychology, and it’s this love for the subject that led me to set up Psychologyflows as a company. It allows me to be involved with the type of psychology that really aligns with my interests and values.
What’s been your biggest achievement?
One of my biggest achievements is starting up my company, driven by sheer passion and a determination to make it work.
It’s a real point of pride to create something that helps and inspires others on their journeys, and it takes a certain type of grit to go against the status quo and make it happen – especially when there’s a road of risk and the unknown ahead.
I feel very fortunate to work in a field that I enjoy; it really has made all the hard work worthwhile.
What’s the biggest result you help your clients to achieve?
It has to be helping individuals to foster a mindset that not only helps them to overcome setbacks but encourages them to believe in their untapped potential.
Ultimately, growth mindset and resilience can only come from believing in yourself and knowing that you have the inner tools to navigate life’s challenges alongside supportive people who help along the way.
What would be your biggest piece of advice for readers who want to achieve the same?
I would always advise people first and foremost to focus on cultivating a growth mindset. To do so, you must embrace challenges, learn from feedback, and accept that making mistakes is part of the process. This requires a shift in perspective, to start seeing effort as a path to achievement, and mistakes as an opportunity for learning.
This sort of mindset shift can have a profound impact on resilience and perseverance; it’s something I’ve seen for myself time and time again.
For anyone looking to learn more about the power of a growth mindset, I would recommend a great book by Carol Dweck, called Mindset: The New Psychology of Success.
What are the biggest mistakes you see people make and how can they be avoided?
One of the biggest obstacles I see is being your own worst critic.
As humans, we can be incredibly hard on ourselves, and so it’s important that we tune into our internal dialogue, our own inner voice, listen to what it’s saying, and start to recognise that. Until we do, it can be difficult to break out of our comfort zone. When our inner critic is loud, we can avoid challenges, because we let the fear of failure prevent us from pushing ourselves to learn more and do more.
Another common thing I see is neglecting the importance of mental wellbeing. Ensuring a supportive and positive environment is crucial for fostering resilience. At times, our environment can be responsible for empowering our harsh inner critic. So, it’s vital that we are consciously aware of how our surroundings are impacting us.
How do you plan on further growing your business?
My plan is to keep delivering my services with passion and care. I truly believe that, when you are great at what you do and you really care about the services you are offering, your business organically grows and expands because people know that you care. It’s all about being in alignment with your purpose and delivering something that you believe in to make a positive difference.
