Geoff Ables, C5 Insight Managing Partner, was a featured speaker at Advanced Learning Institute’s “Intranets for Employee Communications” conference in San Francisco, CA in May 2018. He was the chairperson and keynote speaker for the three-day conference and he also was the presenter for three sessions.

Ables presented the keynote, “5 Megatrends to Create a Successful Employee-Centric Digital Workplace.” Organizations are focusing significant resources on employee engagement, but most are finding engagement to be an elusive target. Attendees to the keynote learned how digital workplace tools can enhance a culture of engagement, and how analytics, data, documents, social, meetings and process all play a role in transforming the employee experience. Intranets can be an effective part of a digital workplace for storing and accessing information; however, success requires people-centric planning and processes.

Ables led the pre-conference workshop, “The Five C’s to Building a Better Intranet Governance Plan.” Intranets can significantly improve collaboration within an organization, improving access to information and increasing productivity. Unfortunately many intranet projects start successfully, but then rapidly become another document graveyard. Participants in this session learned how to provide rigid enough guidelines for users, but also how to be flexible enough to allow users to design an intranet that will meet their department needs. They also learned how to develop intranet content strategy and establish clear community guidelines and a governance plan that will make intranets secure, up-to-date, relevant, and useful to the organization.

Ables also led the interactive workshop, “The Delight Is in the Details: Understanding Your Audience & Deciding What Content to Provide Them With.” Participants learned how to identify the various persona within an organization and how to customize the information details provided based on the persona being served.

Ables is the author of “The LUCK Principle: Business Results at the Intersection of People & Profit.” In the book he teaches how to harness the power of people, process, and technology to transform a business into a digital workplace that balances a people-first culture with bottom-line results. The book is available in both paperback and Kindle versions on Amazon at http://www.Amazon.com/dp/B01N0QW5H4.
