Invisalens Myopia Control Orthokeratology Contacts Safely Correct Vision Overnight
Arizona’s Vision, owned and operated by Dr. Mark Page, in Phoenix, Arizona, has brought to light a new process that will harmlessly help correct your vision. Invisalens, as it is called, is a non-surgical and less invasive alternative to LASIK that will gently re-shape the surface of your eye’s surface through the use of a retainer while you sleep. While appearing on The List Tv show, Dr. Page discussed how more people can be helped at an early age.

Dr. Nicholas Despotidis, an optometrist at Eye Care Professionals PC shares his concerns with finding practical solutions to treat myopia, or near-sightedness, in his young patients.

“Pediatric myopia has been increasing in prevalence and severity over the past few years, and my practice is always looking for new solutions, tools and ways to educate our patients and their parents about how to best manage their myopia,” Despotidis stated.

On The List Tv Show, Dr. Mark Page compared the Invisalens technology to the teeth straightening product Invisalign. “The product is similar to a contact lens, but you put them on and go to sleep. When you wake up and remove them your vision is improved.”

Page states that with Orthokeratology, the scientific term for reshaping the eye, “most people see a 50% improvement in just one night and have clear vision all day after one week of use.”

Initially called Corneal Refractive Therapy, this treatment was approved by the FDA in 2002. In 2016, Dr. Mark Page introduced the product, which looks and feels similar to a contact lens, to his practice as Invisalens to help the general populous better understand what it is, and how it can help change their lives, no matter what age.

Because this type of vision therapy is non-invasive and reduces the risk of damage to the eye, it is especially great for children between 6 and 12 years of age. The long-term benefit of using Invisalens from a young age is that it can slow down how fast their eyes get worse and even prevent them from changing at all.

Despite the fact that Invisalens is quickly spreading around pediatric optometry, Invisalens has also proven to be effective for adults who are suffering from nearsightedness. Rather than taking a risk with the side effects associated with eye surgeries like LASIK, adults have begun using Invisalens as “braces for their eyes.”

CooperVision also recently received FDA approval on another similar product called MySight, which is a soft lens that can be worn during the day to treat near-sightedness.

Both Invisalens and MySight are revolutionizing the eye care industry for patients suffering from myopia. These are both promising alternatives to popular eye correction techniques like LASIK, which requires minor eye surgery and are accompanied by many frightening side effects.

Daniel G. McBride, the President of CooperVision explains, “We can’t overstate the importance and potential impact of this landmark decision on children’s vision, especially considering the rise in myopia’s severity and prevalence in the U.S. and worldwide. Eye care professionals who embrace this breakthrough approach will improve the quality of life and eye health for so many children.”

Dr. Mark Page’s treatment has been improving vision for people of all ages since it was approved by the FDA in 2002. He was also the lead author on a book for parents on what they can do to help their kids.  “Freedom! The Smart Parents Guide To Helping Your Child See A Better Life.”

Jordan, a child living in Phoenix, Arizona, stated, “you just pop them in at night, take them out in the morning and you have a great vision all day.”

“The best thing about Invisalens is it has helped me be able to see everything clearly without having my field of vision restricted by the glasses. It also helped me be more comfortable with my environment,” says Andrew, a student at Arizona State University.

Julie, a part of the Microsoft sales team, said she “used to always switch back and forth and back and forth between glasses and contacts. Now with Invisalens, I can drive and read and see the computer without any glasses.”
