Land sailing, also known as ‘sand yachting’ or ‘land yachting’, is the act of moving across land in a wheeled vehicle powered by wind through the use of a sail. The term comes from analogy with (water) sailing. Historically, land sailing was used as a mode of transportation or recreation. Since the 1950s, it has evolved primarily into a racing sport.
“During my many walks by the shore, I had the opportunity to watch this activity and I love how the sails reflect on the sand, as if they were dancing,” Giroday stated. Giroday further explained much of her inspiration comes from her immediate environment such as the ocean and its shores.
The Avelek series will be first presented this July during the annual exhibition “Peinture et Sculpture en Presqu’île” held in the city of Crozon, France. The photograph will be printed on brushed aluminum.
“This medium really goes well with this series, and gives the photograph another dimension,” Giroday explained.
In addition, Giroday will also exhibit works from the XO Kids series dedicated to children that are “different” (Autism Spectrum & Sensory Disorders, ADHD). Giroday is the founder of the XO Kids project raising global awareness so that governments, teachers, parents and caregivers learn what XO Kids need to thrive and grow up happy.
Giroday will also exhibit works from the series “Alterités”, in reference to Plato. The exhibition “Peinture et Sculpture en Presqu’île” will open July 16th and close August 15th.
