Benjamin Briggs: Sounds like you know what you’re talking about. Do you do voice overs, video editing, or music for film or radio spots?
Leonard A. Lawson: We have done DVD’s, we’ve done voice overs, we’ve done commercials, and we do filming here at Blaque Ice productions. Anything associated with video or audio we pretty much handle. And that includes coming out and setting microphones and engineering equipment at outdoor functions at State Parks as well.
Benjamin Briggs: I know this is a legacy media but does Blaque Ice record to tape? Say if you had an artist that wanted to record to tape, do you provide that service?
Leonard A. Lawson: We can provide that service. It would be sent to our sister facility down in Oakland California. Where they use every form; it’s called Pajama Studios and were linked with them and they use every form of recording possible, so any major projects that want to go to tape we can handle that.
Benjamin Briggs: Do you have beats? Do you make beats?
Leonard A. Lawson: Oh yeah! We make all types of music. We make commercialized music, we make music for quiet storm, jazz tracks, hard rock, and fusions tracks; pretty much anything you want, we can create it.
Benjamin Briggs: What is the most important advice you could give to a potential client trying to break into the music business?
Leonard A. Lawson: Well the best thing to do is try to maintain that edge of being authentic, come with your sound and go with the way you feel about it. With music, there are rules to a certain degree but there really are no rules when you go with what’s in your heart. And don’t let anyone tell you what you can’t do.
Benjamin Briggs: Okay, so I know a lot of younger clients are getting into music; Rock, and Rap. However; how about the proverbial party in the studio? Is Blaque Ice opposed to that?
Leonard A. Lawson: Blaque Ice does not support the smoking, the loud noise, and the girls. This is a residential area so we have to respect our neighbors. And because we have children who come to the studio we don’t like to get involved with some of the things you hear about going on in studios. We run a clean facility here. Its family friendly and family oriented. All sessions are locked out. There’s never going to be a situation where you might be recording, be in the booth and all of a sudden there’s a timeout because I have to see who stopped by to talk about something else. We like to maintain the privacy, because as an artist working on your project, you don’t want everybody to know what’s coming. So, unsavory characters that might show up, that doesn’t happen here at Blaque Ice Productions.
Benjamin Briggs: How would a potential client get in contact with Blaque Ice Productions?
Leonard A. Lawson: Well you can find Blaque Ice Productions at www.blaqueiceproductions.com or .net
Benjamin Briggs: Is there a number where I can reach Blaque Ice Productions?
Leonard A. Lawson: Oh yeah the number for Blaque Ice is 907-952-1100.
Benjamin Briggs: Well Leonard it’s been my pleasure talking to you today and hopefully we’ll be doing more interviews. I appreciate your time and thank you for participating.
Leonard A. Lawson: Alright thank you Benjamin. Thanks for your time!
