At one time, Darren Prince seemed to have it all. He was a world-renowned celebrity agent, representing and working with such figures as Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Hulk Hogan, Dennis Rodman, “Smokin’ Joe” Frazier, Muhammad Ali, Joe Montana and Chevy Chase. However, none of his clients knew what Prince was facing: a growing dependence on opiates that affected every aspect of his life. After a nearly fatal drug overdose, Prince began to see that, in order to save his life, he would have to recover from his addiction and find a new path forward. This meant examining the reasons for his problem and addressing them directly. Looking back on 10 years of sobriety, Prince has good advice for those facing the same crisis: “We discover the best of ourselves when life gets hard.”
After hitting “rock bottom at the top,” Prince learned to value himself as much as his respected clients. He found that he mattered, not just to himself, but to those closest to him. Their support and guidance, and the spiritual fellowship he’s a part of, helped him overcome his addiction and find a new way to live without the support of drugs. His words resonate with those who may believe they are unworthy of affection, admiration and care. He has made it his mission to share his story with the world in the hope that others who are dependent on substances to motivate themselves can find a better way.
