Maureen Sullivan, D.C. (Doc Moe): How to Take Control of Your Health and Fitness Naturally

Doc Moe: Right, it’s things they can do themselves. If they’re taking synthetic vitamins, I usually take them off that too because there’s another whole radio show you could talk about synthetic vitamins, and how people are gobbling these up by the millions, and they’re doing nothing but wasting their money. They can make you worse because it’s another foreign substance that your body doesn’t recognize.

Phil Faris: Doc Moe, how would someone know that they can benefit from working with you? For example, you mentioned magnesium. I’m going to be very interested in finding out more about it. I was thinking, “Let’s look at that because that’s not a question or an issue that was raised by my cardiologist or my doctor. I want to look at that with you.” For me, that’s an ah-ha. What are some other things people may want you to work with them on?

Doc Moe: I probably have 20 things I could tell people what they should do that I’ve found over the past 30 years. It took me two or three years to find each one. You can imagine how difficult it is to sift through the cultural authority to find out what’s real and what can help people. But the person must be willing to make a change and open their mind.

Phil Faris: Okay, so the first criterion is mindset.

Doc Moe: Right. They have to be willing to say, “I am causing this myself. I just don’t have the answer yet.” Everything that they are creating in their life, everything that you and I create in our life, we are creating. We just must keep looking for an answer. You know, the answer for some people could be their cardiologist. But the answer for most people is an underlying problem. It could be that they do have too much stress in their life, Phil. It could be that they’re eating very poorly. They know how to eat better, but they’re too lazy to eat right. Maybe they don’t have the information about what is right to eat as far as proteins, fats, and carbohydrates go. They must understand at a very deep level that they’re causing their problems.

Phil Faris: That’s a big one.

Doc Moe: And, be willing to make changes.

Phil Faris: It’s a big mind shift because we usually go to a doctor and say, “Give me a prescription.” Now, I’m no longer responsible for those things because now I have the prescription and the doctor’s taking that responsibility off my shoulders. You have some specific expectations that you outline for your clients who want to work with you.

Doc Moe: Right, I don’t want people to think that they’re going to come to me and I’m going to give them this magic supplement from the Standard Process farm in Palmyra, Wisconsin. Sure, is it going to help them? Yeah. You can make the nutritional changes, but the behavioral changes must be there too. As I said, I don’t give people recipes. If you want recipes, get a copy of Forks Over Knives or gets a Forks Over Knives app. It’s a book that tells you how to eat basically good carbohydrates and proteins and fats. It’s a vegetarian book, but all you’d have to do is throw in a little bit of good protein if you like protein, and that’s all you’d have to eat from. That’s how simple it is. I mean, you don’t need all this fancy stuff. It’s not fancy.

Phil Faris: You’ve kept it very simple. You’re responsible for what’s going on in your body. There are indicators that we can look at to pinpoint what they are. You can recommend ways to address it. But ultimately, people must decide that “My health is important enough to me to change my behaviors that have caused my health problems in the first place.”

Doc Moe: Right.

Phil Faris: On your website, you say there are three things you expect of all clients. One is regular exercise, five times a week. Two is eat healthy 90% of the time. And three is lifestyle changes, which is changing the things that got you where you are, which could be just as simple as changing your breathing patterns.

Doc Moe: It would be basically learning how to breathe.

Phil Faris: Okay, learning how to breathe properly.

Doc Moe: But those three things are very important, yes.

I don’t want any victims or someone that’s going to call me up and go on for 20 minutes about what they’ve got. It doesn’t matter what you’ve got. You know what I mean? What you’ve got is what you’ve created, and because you’ve created it, you can create something else.

Phil Faris: That’s a very powerful message. If people want to get more information or contact you, where should they go, Doc Moe?

Doc Moe: Because of the amount of time this takes, I don’t take a lot of people, Phil, to be very honest. I don’t want to do more than six blood labs a week. If they want to do this kind of thing where they want to take control of their health, they can either email me at . Or, they can text me at 561-346-8883. What I would do is get back to them and give them a complimentary consultation for 10 minutes to see if we have a fit. I can tell by talking to somebody for 10 minutes whether I can help them or not. I can tell how committed they would be and how much they understand what I’m trying to say.
