What was your entry point to Entrepreneurialism?

For several years, I had a vision of running my own company but never could quite figure out what would I be doing. I was quite ambitious and my corporate career as an expat was quite cushy at the time so stepping out of that routine and privileged life wasn’t all that alluring. I enjoyed the challenge of living in different countries and working with distinct cultures (which was an education in itself) and rising up the ranks. But with all that going for me, I intuitively felt that what I was doing was minuscule in the grander scheme of things and that’s when I started to direct my attention and energy towards personal development and developing the human potential. It was tough. I must admit. And would frequently find myself gravitating towards the comfort, perks, and stability of a job. In many ways, I had to unlearn what I had learned in terms of thought, behavior, and attitude.

When did you catch the entrepreneurial bug?

Well, I believe that hints to help guide us exist everywhere. Regardless of the challenges life throws at us, I believe that my life has been quite fortunate. Born to the two most wonderful parents, my brother and I were brought up in a caring and close-knit family environment, and today I’m surrounded by my wife and three daughters—who I love and gain strength from. However, deep inside, despite all of this, I’ve always sensed something was missing, but I had no idea what it was. Maybe it was luck or maybe the universe just grew more determined to guide me toward recognition of what was missing, because the journey to find it has really been quite incredible. First, I realized that no matter how much I willed it, I could not answer the question, “Why am I not fulfilled?”

Working in banking, I am a natural strategist, evaluator, and analyzer. Not being able to answer this seemingly simple question was starting to wear me down. One day I had to take a bus home from work (my wife usually picked me up) and I was looking out the window with thoughts running through my mind at the velocity of a bullet train. There on the street was a huge banner that read: Ask and you shall receive. I must have seen that a million times before, but on that day the statement struck me differently. Later, in my meditation, I asked what must I do to feel more fulfilled. Next, a few months later I was at a bookstore with my family and a book just happened to fall in front of me—the universe willing me to read it.

Now, I’m not a big reader, which is unlike many people who seek better meaning in their lives. I enjoy movies. So when this book titled The Secrets of the Light by Dannion Brinkley landed in front of me, I reacted differently than I normally might. I picked it up and began reading. For fifteen plus minutes I was sitting on the floor of the bookstore and was a good twenty pages into this book. I was drawn in so I purchased it. This story was about a man who had two near-death experiences, in which he went to the light and was returned to life on earth. His story was so powerful to me in an inexplicable way. I just knew I had to reach out to him. The day came when I called Dannion up. While dialing his number I was thinking, but what am I going to say to this man? It turned out that I didn’t need to say anything. I introduced myself and he said, “I was waiting for your call. What took you so long?” I was blown away. From there,I realized I have a larger vision and a grander plan to work toward a divine unfoldment that I had not known thus far. Gradually, I was able to see the signs that the universe does put out there for us.

Someone once said, “The reason why angels can fly is that they hold themselves lightly.” This idea resonates with me and everything that I focus my mentoring and coaching on as well as the choices I make for my career and personal life. When we keep things light and allow them to unfold the way they should, we let go of the strong arm of over-attachment and intense scrutiny.
