Interview With Becky Norwood About Her New Program Journey to Authorship

INTERVIEWER:         Excellent, excellent. And who is your ideal client?

BECKY NORWOOD: My ideal client is a business owner who wants to take their business way further than just working hard; they know there are things they can do, but they don’t know how to get there but they’re willing to work hard. They’re willing to put in the—they want the guidance and

they are willing to do the work that goes into it. When I initially started my business, I attracted a lot of people who wanted a lot of things. They wanted video done, they wanted this done, they wanted that done, but they wouldn’t give me the content. They wouldn’t show up for their video shoots. As I’ve progressed and learned, I have developed very, very specific requirements that clients know from the very beginning—that they need to actively participate to make this happen. I’m not going to write their books for them, and I’m not going to provide the content for their videos or their blogs. They need to be proactive and give me the content.

INTERVIEWER:         Right. Good for you. And . . . let’s see. What do you feel sets you apart from other businesses that encourage business owners to write books and provide resources?

BECKY NORWOOD: I think it’s just the style in which I do it. As far as what specifically sets me apart, I think it’s my understanding to start them out with their marketing from the moment they even conceive of writing a book and starting them on blogging, starting their social media, starting to make videos, starting all those key things. Learning about podcasting, to start them well before they write that book—from the moment they start thinking about it—then I often start them on blogging and if they’re doing this and then doing videos, there’s content for their book. I teach them to multipurpose all the way through. Repurpose their content, and they’ve got a ton of information. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel.

INTERVIEWER:         Yes, excellent. So, Becky, what do you think is a common misconception that business owners have about writing a book? Or not even just writing a book, how a book can help them grow their business?

BECKY NORWOOD: The context of build it and they will come does not apply. In other words, if a book is written, that book is not going to be their magic. They think that because they write a book, that many, many people are going to want to read it. It’s a misconception. I have seen many authors think that just because they have written a book, that it’s going to sell like magic. It doesn’t happen that way. The marketing and exposure have to be continued.

INTERVIEWER: Will you be participating in any upcoming conferences or speaking engagements?

BECKY NORWOOD: Let me think. I’m not sure I will. No, I have started my podcast series where                      I’m interviewing others.

INTERVIEWER:         Oh good. Tell me about that.

BECKY NORWOOD: I started a podcast series yesterday and I will be doing them weekly. I interviewed Sandra Beckwith with Build Book Buzz and it was a great—I mean, she’s well established in the world of authors and marketing and all that. And then, I’m working with Deborah Lanski on reaching more readers and she’s my next interview. Each week, someone new is scheduled. I’m working with Bruce Jones on the incredible ways to market both books and products. He’s been training, and so, I’ll be doing interviews with all of them.

INTERVIEWER:         Wonderful. Wonderful. And what would you like to leave prospective clients with in regard to your business and your program? What would you like to say to them about Journey To Authorship and using the resources of Spotlight On Your Business?

BECKY NORWOOD: Journey To Authorship, I’d like to say that your book is your calling card and as a business owner, it’s really important to use that calling card in the right way. If you’re not building a business but you have this big desire to create a legacy, then what do Norman Vincent Peale, Napoleon Hill, even Wayne Dyer, what do they have in common? They’re not here with us today, but their words will still impact people for many years to come. In order to use your book as either a calling card or to leave a legacy, start now. We’ve got the tools and the resources to make this become a reality, and to empower you to do it for yourself. Spotlight On Your Business is full of all the resources and services that you’ll need to know for your journey, so you’re not going to be spending lots of time searching and trying to find out how to get this done. You’ll either be empowered to know how do it yourself, or find high quality people that know how to do it for you.

INTERVIEWER:         Wonderful.
