Can you briefly share a success story for a company you worked with and helped achieve a successful outcome?

Josh Levine: Yeah, absolutely. We worked with a technology organization whose mission is to help more people get more jobs in mainly blue-collar work. They asked us to come in and help them imagine new values—how they do their work. We worked with them to see how the organization was growing and moving in a new direction and understand what wasn’t working about the previous values. We worked with what we call cultural all-stars, the people that inside the organization are informal leaders, to understand where they saw their company going. By helping them choose the right words and define what ended up being four key values, what each one meant and what the behavior was meant to be driven from, we were able to help them more clearly define their hiring criteria, their rewards and recognition criteria, and even their off-boarding – ending relationships with employees who did not fit those values. We helped them create a rubric against which they could continue to evolve the organization and develop a values-fit program so that people can understand and be self-directed. These are the things that are important to us. If we choose these, and we know how to ask what they mean, then you can be empowered to make your own values-aligned decisions. Through our work with them, the organization was able to gain a renewed sense of direction and vision and to help them be the kind of organization they want to be as they grow. Now they have a unified vision around not just hiring for skills but hiring for values.
