What is the #1 lesson for a CEO’s success, and how can others learn from it?
All CEOs know that there are significant elements for success. However, based on my business journey and facilitating eight years of CEO round tables, the number one lesson for CEO success and their growth is to eventually work “on” the business versus “in” the business. Everything transpires from there. Many CEOs have a hard time removing themselves from the daily activities in running a company, especially when they grow. That’s what we call working “in” the business. When a CEO works “on “the business (developing strategies and goals, implementing structure and rhythm, hiring the right people, having a great company culture, etc.), the company transitions to significant growth. This one lesson is the leader’s foundation for success. Some criteria for working “on” the business include hiring more competent people than you, creating a culture that everyone can embrace, having resources and tools that CEOs provide to employees for their success, and more. These are all links to sustainable success, and as they say, you are only as good as your weakest link.
