If you could do it all over again, what one thing would you do differently, and why?
You know, I have such a hard time with these questions. Because if I could do it all over again, maybe I’d go straight into editing. But I wouldn’t be where I am today. If I hadn’t spent three years “fruitlessly” pursuing coaching, I wouldn’t have developed the skills and relationships (relationships!!!) that are now leading to paid work. Those blood-red tax returns? #worthit
How do you keep things fun and interesting for yourself?
I just love being a goofball. I don’t take myself too seriously. Mind you, I take my work seriously. I take client relationships seriously.
I was looking up hex color codes and came across a color scheme for Twinkies. So what did I do? I shared it on Facebook for all the graphic designers out there! ???? Things like that—even little things—keep life fun. And Twinkie hex color codes? Definitely interesting. 😉
Who do you admire and how has that person helped you to reach your current level of success?
That friend I mentioned before? That would be Jennifer Harshman. She was the one who called out my gifting for editing. She took me under her wing. She asked me to join her team. She has taught me not only how to be a great editor, but also how to run a business and how to care well for clients. In addition to editing work, I do virtual assistant and project management work for her. I couldn’t imagine how our working relationship, paired with our friendship, could be better than it is. She is a dear friend, mentor, and client, and is such an immense inspiration to me.
What is your primary business focus for the next 12 months?
I’m focusing on growing my client work so that my husband can move into part-time work, then eventually, staying at home. We’re working on our three-year plan, which culminates in us hitting the road to RV full-time!!
Is that too broad? Well you know what, I’m okay with that, because my idea of what is possible in life used to be so narrow! I’m expanding my mindset, and in turn, expanding the amazing options for my family to experience life to the fullest.
