JTM:  Hello, my name is Jerry T. Myers, I am a Speaker, Business Coach and Author of GET IN THE DOOR: 7 Keys to Maximizing Your Career Search. My passion is opening the doors of opportunities for job seekers. Most recently, I wrote a provocative book that changes the world of the new job seeker, unemployed, and underemployed.

BI: What would you say is the area in business that you are most passionate about and why?

JTM: The area of business that I am most passionate about is branding. Branding is such an important part of our lives from the way companies create experiences for their customers to the way career seekers expand their opportunities through social media. Knowing how others perceive your brand is our responsibility as business owners and allows us control over what we say. While we build our company’s brand, recognize that our customers make the ultimate choice of who we are as a brand, so make every message count.

BI: How are you different than your competitors?

JTM: IN THE DOOR LLC. Differentiates ourselves from our competitors by focusing on clear strategies that guide today’s job seeker whether unemployed or underemployed. Our focus is to provide career seekers with a clear strategy that creates unique opportunities. When conducting seminars, our attendees leave thinking like Human Resource professionals which is a clear mental shift. This philosophy alongside with being employment experts makes us very attractive for seminars and workshops. We utilize the GET IN THE DOOR: 7 Keys to Maximizing Your Career Search book as a resource.

BI: Please tell me about any recent business accomplishments that you are most proud of and why?

JTM: We are proud to have led several workshops over the years for many organizations including AARP, City of Atlanta Parks and Recreation, DeKalb County School System and Goodwill of North Georgia. Today we are expanding into the college market. Universities are now focused on gainful employment regulations and being available to speak to large groups of students about their career search strategies and seeing measurable results is something we are proud of.

BI: What Leadership qualities in Leaders do you most admire and why?

JTM:I admire perseverance as it is the most important leadership quality for the following reasons.

-Leaders who endure succeed in life and create positive changes in others.

-Perseverance is the equalizer to talent.

-You inspire others in life with your actions, not your words as persevering allows you to be in a position to push beyond the status quo as a leader.

BI: What has been a key element of your success? *                        

JTM: My success is shaped by the drive to never be complacent. For the past few years, I have taught a marketing class for Saint Leo University. In my class students complete a SWOT Analysis where they analyze the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of a company. This critical analysis allows a company to create a great strategy by knowing it’s strengths and weaknesses. In life, I believe taking a personal inventory is just as important. Measuring daily accomplishments and opportunities builds character and allows for sustainable success.

BI: What are some of the business projects that you are currently working on that you are excited about and why?

JTM: I am personally working on my second book “Now that I am in the Door” 7 Keys to Maximizing Your Interview. I am also preparing for a fall college tour that will help thousands of students with their career searches. We are also working with companies regarding their exit counseling strategies to prepare their employees for the job market during major layoffs.

BI: What are 1 or 2 things you would like to say to a prospective client who stumbles across this interview?

JTM: To a perspective client, I would say the following.

– We are not only a brand that understands the job market; we are a brand that cares about the success of the job seeker.

-Our workshops and career materials are priceless as changing one life with our strategies is worth the investment.
