De-Stressing Made Easy

I had the pleasure of talking with Judi Juliano, best known as “Joy Coach Judi”. Judi is a Behavioral Health Technician, Stress/Relaxation Coach, Addiction and Recovery Coach, Grief Coach, Oil Educator, Health and Wellness Advocate and Spiritual Aromatherapist. In our talk, we focused in on Judi’s unique ability, decades of experience and education on Stress: to put it into Judi’s words: “De-Stressing Can be Easy.” Join us now in learning how to de-stress easily.

Carol: Judi it is so nice to be able to talk with you today. I’d like to delve right in, if that is ok with you?

Judi: Absolutely Carol. I am so happy that we have taken the time to meet and discuss such a critical topic.

Carol: I so agree. Stress is all around from young to elderly and especially now in today’s turned upside down global world.

Let’s begin so we can offer some insights into de-stressing and making it easy. Something which many of us are so appreciative of – that is making things easy for us.

You are a Behavioral Health Technician. Can you explain what that is exactly?

Judi: A behavioral health technician can assist mental health professionals with those having behavioral problems, for example, mental illness and developmental disorders. A behavioral health technician works directly with the patient/client by assisting with daily activities, selfcare, and as a mentor, so to speak, by discouraging negative thinking and actions with encouraging support and services, as with myself, via stress reduction techniques and more.

According to mentalhealth.gov: “mental health includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.”

My case experience, (36 years working with alcoholics) and the 4 years studying coaching, massage and other natural health certifications, counts and qualifies me as a Behavioral Health Technician (BHT). Now I am working with foster children taking more classes and gaining experience. I am a certified Regional Joy Coach® with a certificate in Stress Relief.

Carol: That was very helpful. I’ve never heard of the term. Seems a very needed profession for sure. Thank you Judi and congratulations on your current position and future studies of continuing education as well.

You have an extensive background, but for now, let’s concentrate on you being a Certified and Essential Oil Educator and Specialist.

What is a Joy Coach® and how does that relate to the coaching you do or the work you do that would help make destressing be easy?

Judi: For almost 4 years now I have studied with Karyn Lynn Grant, LMT and Founder of Joy Coaching® America. With Joy Coaching®, we begin by nurturing the mind, soul and spirit with song and scent. Clients learn to forgive themselves and others and learn tools for relaxation. These ideas or tools are easy and fun.

Also, with Joy Coaching®, we mentor the heart, mind, body and spirit with music, touch points, meditation and aromatherapy. It’s a holistic approach, releasing grief and bringing comfort. If we see a client in person, this is non-invasive with clothes left on and only shoes and socks taken off.

Carol: and your Essential Oil Educator/Specialist work, can you tell us more about that as well and what led you to your lines of work with oils and stress reduction?

Judi: Yes, thank you. I have used and studied oils for 20 years. For about 8 years, I have studied under Dr. Susan Lawton, registered nurse and 2 PHD’s in Bio-chemistry and Psychology and that is in addition to my course study with Karyn Lynn Grant, as I mentioned earlier.

When I was 55 and just starting my massage business, I met a young 20 year old. She suggested I use essential oils and I didn’t realize at that time that people actually still used oils. I thought they were just spoken of and used in the Bible. As she shared, I had goosebumps all over and knew this was for me. 12 years later, I was introduced to Joy Coaching® and had the same goosebumps all over again!

Carol: Well from that response alone, I can tell something majorly resonated with you and oils!

Judi: Yes, I have learned so much. In the beginning I felt “led” to work with oils. Then I learned that 100% pure oils actually penetrate the cell membrane. Medications go to the cell membrane only. Oils also have no side effects and can be used while taking medications, if necessary.

Carol: Ok, so now that we have better feel for what it is you do and how it applies to stress or destressing, why do you say that destressing is or can be easy?

Judi: The desire or willingness to live with less stress is very important as it allows the techniques we use or the tips we share to be more readily accepted. If these do not exist, much will not work.

I get so thrilled when a client or one of the children are helped. It isn’t me, it’s their willingness; they want to live better. What I have learned over the years helps them. The last time I quieted a 9 year old down, the other gal that was helping her said: “How did you do it?” I said: “guidance from above and experience. I am 75 and you are out of college 1 year. You are an amazing person and as time goes on, you will learn more if you are willing.”
