Plus, remember some of the key points we’ve discussed about the gut/hormone relationship, such as:
• The HPA axis involves the hypothalamus, pituitary and adrenals. It plays a crucial role in hormone regulation and is influenced by ALL kinds of stress. It is the root cause of hormone imbalances, which also affects the adrenals and thyroid. Adrenals produce cortisol which your organs need to function. It’s what protects the body when it’s under stress. When too much stress is involved, the body can’t keep up.
• Hormones, including insulin, thyroid, DHEA and estrogen significantly impact health. Imbalances in those hormones can result in varying symptoms and conditions.
• The gut is the center of the body, known as the second brain due to the role it plays in nourishing everything from our brain to our skin, and is the centerpiece of our overall health. It is interconnected with various aspects of our well-being, including autoimmunity, hormones, weight gain, thyroid, chronic fatigue syndrome, mental health, and many more.
• Digestion is the top healing priority of the body. When you can’t properly digest and absorb nutrients, it affects the vitality of the entire body.
• There are good bacteria. There are important digestive enzymes that our body needs to help detox our gut and filter out excess hormones such as estrogen.
• Factors like diet, bacteria, overgrowth, and a high toxic load influence the activity of some of these enzymes and good bacteria. If your body is not absorbing and breaking down nutrients correctly, it starts to affect the rest of the body.
